It would not have been difficult to time these flies; they were just hovering. This was taken on a camping trip in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

What a bizarre shot! I have never seen anything quite like this. Awesome!
I have never seen a photo like this. It's really cool. They remind me of fighter jets in WW2.
Oh this makes me homesick! I grew up in the U.P...where once the snow finally melts in early June we have a couple of months of semi-warm weather with lots of bugs like this! ;-)
