At the Huntington Botanical Gardens, San Marino, California, USA
I took this picture from ground level looking up. It was the only way to avoid distracting backgrounds and to have the sky for contrast. And it is a lot more interesting picture! Seeing these unusual plants with no context but the sky is more appealing than the standard eye-level shot (see next post). 18mm, f3.6, 1/640 sec., ISO 800.

Interesting plants! Nice viewpoint.
This way the plants look a lot larger than they probably are, no?
Those are pretty cool :)
And Nicola is right, taking the picture 'looking up from ground level' make those plants look much taller!
I hope you have some more pictures from this trip- I'd like to see them :D Are you holding out on us Fraser? :p

K,
See below.
Those are very interesting plants. I love the perspective. Fantastic.
just love the angle u took the shot, well done, cool shot
Not a bad shot, the angle is lovely but just does not seem to go all the way for me. Can't seem to put my finger on it. Just sits okay & not okay. 5/10 marks bro.

Suby,
Curiously, I have had more requests for prints of this picture than any but the garden pond. I guess that is the wonderful thing about art; different things appeal to different people.
I love your bipolar grading methodology!! "I have half a mind that this picture works and half a mind that it doesn't. So I will give five points from one half of my mind and none from the other." This is great stuff; you could have a wonderful comedy act. I love it!
Hey Fraser. I like this photo a lot. I have tried several similar shots that have never worked out. In order to expose for the sky, I always end up severely underexposing the plants. I've tried correcting in photoshop, but haven't had much luck yet. Well done. A great photo.
This is superb! Almost alien...I've never seen plants like these before. Thanks for posting this one!
very beautiful shot here. love it. take care and have a nice weekend
Great perspective!!
such an interesting plant species Bob! love how you composed the image from the low angle looking up..cheers ;)
